Juniper processing

Juniper (Juniperus communis L.) is an evergreen shrub. Deverrafarm is oriented in the production of essential oils of juniper, exclusively harvested from the area of mountains in southern Serbia. The specificity of the region where juniper grows and is processed has over time proven the quality of essential oils, as well as its high content in mature juniper berries. There are two types of berries, the first is low growth height up to 1m, and the other reaches height from 2 to 7 meters, with oval or crown treetop. Both type of junipers are characterized by a very narrow, pointed, prickly leaves, densely and irregularly branched, highly resistant to all weather conditions, in which the the juniper berry is found ranging from 1-3 years in age. In the process of exploitation berries that are used are exclusively mature, round, dark purple and cleaned. The fruit has aromatic odor and bitter-sweet taste.

Fruit berries are harvested from September to early winter. It takes berries to ripen two to three years, and then they are harvested and dried in common drafty areas or in specially designed driers at low temperatures up to 30°C, which allows the maximum preservation of all valuable ingredients contained within the berry. Deverra Farm has a processing capacity of 500.000kg of junipper fruit berries.

Juniper essential oil is obtained by distillation of ripe and crushed juniper berries. Our staff possesses decades of proven experience in the production of  essential oils. Deverra Farm Ltd is equipped with laboratory for the control of incoming raw materials, control of the production process and quality control of the product itself. In industrial conditions, we are qualified for selection of berries by size, dusting and polishing of products, milling and high-pressure steam hydrodistillation. With all of these parameters and the specificity of the company location, we are able to guarantee the highest quality that can meet all
required international standards in the production of essential oils.
